L'apertura del computer non richiede
alcun attrezzo particolare, proprio come accade nei PowerMac G5: basta
semplicemente sollevare la leva sul retro e rimuovere, ribaltandolo,
il pannello sulla destra (visto dal fronte) dello chassis.
Potete inserire un totale di 4 hard disk per un totale di 2 Terabyte
di dati. Gli hard disk devono avere queste specifiche:
Interfaccia SATA 3 Gbps. Dimensioni= larghezza: 3.9 pollici (102 mm),
Profondità: 5.7 pollici (147 mm), Altezza: 1.0 pollice.
Potete sfilarli comodamente dalle loro sedi ma l'operazione va fatta
a macchina spenta. Per togliere la slitta di scorrimento che li riveste
è necessario un cacciavite.
I dischi ottici sul fronte possono essere rimossi con un semplice
cacciavite e sostituiti con altre meccaniche: è permesso farlo
ma Apple lo sconsiglia. Per estrarli è necessario alzare la
leva posteriore che provvede anche al loro sbloccaggio.
Il
MacPro è dotato di due schede per l'inserimento della memoria
che portano il totale di slot disponibili a 8.
Ogni scheda ha due banchi con due slot in cui vanno posizionate le
memorie a coppie dello stesso fornitore.
La dotazione minima è di 1 GB fornito con due DIMM da 512 MB
abbinate.
Le specifiche sono:
667 MHz, FB-DIMMs - 72-bit wide, moduli da 240-pin-
36 dispositivi massimo per DIMM - Error-correcting code (ECC).
Non è necessario alcun attrezzo per rimuoverle: basta sfilarle
dalla loro sede facendole scivolare sugli appoggi laterali.
Lo speaker è collocato nella parte frontale sotto la ventola
ed è rivolto verso il basso. Ovviamente
è utile solo per comunicazioni di servizio, inutile pretendere
un ascolto Hi-Fi.
Nella parte inferiore è collocata anche l'antenna Wi-Fi/Airport
dietro uno sportellino.
I
processori (due XEON
Woodcresta bordo) possono essere sostituiti in qualsiasi
momento visto che sono alloggiati su uno zoccolo e una volta rimosse
le ventole, le periferiche di massa e ottiche e pure i castelletti
per la memoria, vi si può accedere rimuovendo l'elemento a
"L" che fa da protezione e funge anche da dissipatore.
Dopo aver sostituito i processori non occore effettuare alcun diagnostico
per la ricalibrazione termica.

Opening
the computer requires no particolar tool as seen on the PowerMac G5:
you lift the latch on the rear and remove the access panel on the
right side (seeing it from the front).
The hard drive must have this specifications:
SATA 3 Gbps. Size = Width: 3.9 inches (102 mm), Depth: 5.7 inches
(147 mm), Height: 1.0 inch
You can remove them with no tool but you have to use a Phillips #1
screwdriver to remove the protective plate from the bare hard drive.
The Optical drive on the front can be removed also using a screwdriver.
The rear latch must be in the up position otherwise the optical driver
are locked in place.
You can install your own optical drives even if Apple discourages
this operation.
The MacPro computer has two memory riser cards with
a total of 8 memory slots.
The slots are arranged as two banks of two slots each on each card.
The MacPro is sold with a minimum of 1 GB of memory, installed in
pair of 512 MB fully buffered, dual inline memory modules in two of
the DIMM slots.
Additional DIMMs can be installed in the open DIMM slots,
The DIMMs must be installed in pairs of equal size from the same vendor.

You need no tool to remove the raisers and the memory. See the picture
below for more comments.
You can "easily" exchange the XEON processor onboard since
they are socketed: you have to remove optical drives, fan, memory
risers and the processor heatsinks but at the end you can access to
the 2 Intel WoodCrest just in case you want to increase the overall
speed of your MacPro from 2 Ghz to 3 or more Ghz deserving power to
grow when new chips will be availble from Intel.

It's easy to remove the drive but it isn't a hot swap operation:
the MacPro doesn't operate with the side lid open.

The processor is slotted so you can easily replace it. It's at
the left of the memory bays and the front fan helps in refreshing
it. A little bit simpler than the Quad G5, isn't it?
