Starting from version 6.1 the Italian users were unable to import or export text documents and spreadsheet into the de-facto standard formats .DOC and .XLS (Word and Excel Mac/Win) letting the italian consumer a step behind international Mac Users.
The problem was due to a wrong positioning /linking inside the System/Application folders of the DataWiz translators that are used to perform the conversion from AppleWorks to Word, Excel and back.
AppleWorks is an important weapon in Apple Evangelism since it allows no frills yet powerful text editing and spreadsheet calculation at a reasonable price or for free (it’s included in every iMac o iBook sold by Apple).
As of today Italian users had to buy third party software (that is anyway more powerful and multiformat aware) to get the translation/conversion operation done.
